Today's Reading
Nehemiah. During the days recorded in Ezra, when the Temple was being restored, God raised up another servant-leader to take on a different challenge. Ezra, the priest and scribe, was naturally concerned for the Temple. The problem that still remained was that Jerusalem was unprotected defensively. The wall was a shambles. God placed it on the heart of Nehemiah, the "cupbearer" (he tasted the food and drank the wine before the king to make sure it wasn't poison) to go back to the home of his ancestors and lead the wall-building project. Nehemiah was skilled to be a planner, thorough and meticulous. He has had the necessary diligence to see the job through to completion.
1 Corinthians. As Paul wrote to the Corinthian church about living as followers of Christ, he needed to cover the subject of marriage. This chapter is one I refer to often. Please take note of it so you can get back to it as needed.
Psalms. I want to, in the end, always be loyal to God. I need His presence so much. How about you?
Proverbs. When I read this verse today, I had to confess my "proud heart." God placed it in the same category as the others -- sin.
What speaks to you?

I know I've mentioned this before, but I just love the book of Nehemiah. He is such an example for me. He prayed before He went for it. One of my favorite verses here is 2:4 when the King asked Nehemiah, "What is it you want?" Then I prayed to the God of heaven and I answered the King." He prayed and then went for it.
ReplyDeleteIn the Proverbs today I was reminded of something I used to say to the kids when they were littler. If they needed me to correct them, often times they would say the correct thing to me, but their eyes would still have that haughty glare in them. I used to point out to them this verse. I would tell them, "Change your face". I think that lately I need to change my face!
I, too was struck by Nehemiah always going to the Lord in prayer before even giving an answer to the King; with Corinthians on the Godly duties of marriage; but especially Proverbs - my "haughty eyes" and "proud spirit" are worthy of God's condemnation each day. I pray that He will lift these sins from me, as He has lifted my previous sins, and prayerfully will continue to in my future. Praise the Lord for His divine forgiveness of His people.
