July 4

Happy Independence Day in the USA!

Today's Reading

2 Kings: God's judgment was becoming reality for the people of Judah. It's an amazing story, though, of grace. Many people suffered, but many of the humble were spared some of the worst difficulty.

Acts: Paul was respectful, even in the midst of adversity. On the other hand, he knew how to bind up the religious leaders. He did it by simply playing to their long-standing differences.

Psalms: the following verses make a great prayer to pray for our President and leaders throughout the world...
10 Now then, you kings, act wisely!
Be warned, you rulers of the earth!
11 Serve the Lord with reverent fear,
and rejoice with trembling.

Proverbs: these wise words speak to me as a husband. How do they speak to you?

  1. I think I know the answer to this question but I want to hear it from you! In 2 Kings:8-14, How can Jehoiachin rule in Jerusalem 3 months but the Bible states he reigned for over 8 years? It does state that Jehoiachin surrendered to the king of Babylon but it goes on to say later that Jehoiachin was taken prisoner. ????

  2. First, I find no evidence (am I missing something?) that Jehoiachin reigned for 8 years? This passage talks about the 8th year of Nebuchadnezzar's reign, but Jehoiachin reigned for about 3 months. He surrendered because his city with besieged and helpless. He was taken as a captive to Babylon, where he lived out his life. I hope this helps. :)
