Today's Reading
Judges concludes today with a final description of just how far Israel had strayed from God. Don't buy in to the lie that people are inherently good.
Ruth is one of the most romantic and beautiful stories in all the Bible. It begins with a tragedy and ends with hope.
I feel refreshed just by reading the encounter John described between Jesus and the Samaritan woman. Wells that were fed by underground springs were called "living water" because they were always full -- no matter how much was used. Jesus offers us that same "living water" springing up from within as God replenishes us by His Spirit. As we yield to His life, we are amazed at the harvest God shows us.
Psalms: God keeps His promises. He doesn't need the strength of humans to make His words come true. He kept the promise of "a great nation" when Abraham was but one man!
Proverbs: may we speak the truth in love today.
I am grateful for God's Word to us today. How about you?

I have a few questions about our passage in John today.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, were the Samaritans descendants of Jacob? The woman is amazed that Jesus claims He has better water than their ancestor's well.
Secondly, what does it really mean to worship in spirit and in truth? I think I understand what it means to worship in spirit, but in truth?? What does the word, "truth" mean in that particular context.
Finally, Jesus tells his disciples that they are harvesting what others have planted. "Others" have done the work. What "others" is Jesus talking about?
