Today's Reading

1 Kings: my wife reminded me that, while some of Judah's kings were good and others were evil, all of Israel's kings were evil (after the nation divided). Ahab was near the top of the heap of bad rulers. His wife Jezebel was worse than him. About 50 years ago, a pastor named R.G. Lee had a very famous sermon about them, called "Payday Someday." Before this account is finished, we will see the judgment of God against their wickedness.

Acts: this vivid depiction of the beginning of Paul's missionary journeys keeps mentioning John Mark. Remember that, because he will be the source of some controversy later in the story. He was already mentioned the night Peter was miraculously released from prison by an angel. That night he found the disciples praying for him at the home of John Mark's mother. John Mark would write his Gospel (Mark) shortly after this, using the descriptions he heard from Peter.

Psalms: one can only imagine the torment of soul they were going through to write such a scathing curse toward their enemies.

Proverbs: many foolish, young people go on to receive some type of education after they grow up a bit.

What do you see?

  1. Aren't most of us foolish as young people? and - thankfully - most of us DO grow-up and gain some wisdom. Again - Praise the Lord. Just let us remember that we were ''that foolish'' when we were ''that age''... and thank God for pointing this out to us when we forget it. We never totally grow-up (darn it)!
