Today's Reading

Joshua. Today's list of defeated enemies speaks to me of God's faithfulness and Joshua's obedience. God was faithful to "deliver" Israel's enemies into their hands. Joshua and his leaders had learned from past mistakes, and were soundly destroying their enemies. It sounds so unrefined to us, but it is a picture of the ruthlessness we must have over the sin in our own lives.

Luke. Jesus had healed the ten lepers, yet He commended the one who returned, saying, "Your faith has healed you." I think this means that the one could fully enjoy his healing because he recognized where it came from. It's like someone receiving a financial blessing. If they squander it on themselves, they are left broke and empty. If they give God praise for it and are generous with it, they are filled up with joy.

I love this Psalm and find it refreshing. "Better is one day in Your courts than thousands elsewhere."

Proverbs. In our era, little white lies are considered expedient at times. Notice what God's Word says about them.

Good stuff today. What's your input? Questions?

  1. You'll have to forgive my ignorance on this topic - I think I'm a bit confused. Was Abraham considered the first Jew (Israelite)? He came from Ur, correct? Was he the beginning of the Jewish race? Was the Jewish race in existence before God called Abraham to be the first of "His People"?
In our NT passage today it talks about the Kingdom of God being among us. I love and am in awe of that thought. Believers are His kingdom today and we are looking to the coming of His kingdom.

  2. I thought Luke was really interesting today. It clearly gave us an idea of what it will be like when Christ returns.

Psalms showed what it is to desperately love God. To want nothing more than to be in His prescence.

  3. Ranelle, the Jews look to Abraham as their "father" because he entered into a covenant relationship with God that was promised to his descendants. Of note, the Arabs look to Abraham as their "father" through Ishmael. In Romans, Paul says that the covenant is with Abraham and his "seed", meaning Christ, so those in Christ are the true "seed" of Abraham.
