Today's Reading

Joshua. Many Scripture passages tell us history. This section of Joshua is about geography. It would be easier to understand if we were looking at an ancient map.

I often think about the millenia-old conflict that resulted from the inability to drive out the Jebusites. Jebus the name comes from a root meaning "hatred." Jerusalem is supposed to be a city of peace, but instead has been full of bloodshed all these years.

Luke. I'm captivated by the story of Bartimaeus, the blind man on the road to Jericho. Some Jews believed that the "son of David" would have the power to heal. He had heard that Jesus was called the son of David. He believed. He saw!

Psalms. I'm grateful for this reminder of God's mercy. I live with a growing awareness of it and of God's provision.

According to today's Proverb, I want to be a person who listens to wise advice.

How about you? What do you see? What are your questions?

  1. The story of the rich man is one I continually go back to and question. It just seems so opposite of the way most Christians today live. However, I find peace when reading-
“What is impossible for people is possible with God.”

We have a little chalkboard on our bookshelves and we write scriptures on it. PSalm 86:11 was on there for weeks. I like the version which uses the term "undivided heart" because it paints such a clear picture for me.

  2. I like the Luke scripture today...the purity of the statement "I want to see." I think this is reflected in the Proverbs for today - the constant pleading to God to learn His ways, to receive His forgiveness, essentially to draw close to Him and "see" as the blind man symbolically asked for. What a good reminder of living the basics - "I want to see".
