Today's Reading

1 Kings. The size and splendor of Solomon's palace is described today. What thoughts does it bring to mind for you? How would you like to clean it? Then the passage goes on with the description of the Temple furnishings. Remember that their worship at the time include copious numbers of animals being sacrificed. All the places for washing were needed. I took a few minutes to imagine the large crew needed to do this work. Huram must have been very skilled indeed to manage them all.

Having just read about the construction of Solomon's temple, we fast-forward to the book of Acts and see Stephen refer to it. No matter how spectacular it was, God's dwelling place is in human hearts instead. We are near the crisis point in Stephen's defense; hang on.

Psalms. Fear God and follow His ways. That's the road to a fulfilled life!

Proverbs really speaks to my heart today. I hope it does to yours, too! My hair is getting grayer. If I take today's passage literally, that's a good thing, right? :o)

Some of you are just joining in our readings. These passages aren't as easy to read as some that have a clear story line. Do you have comments and/or questions about them?
