Today's Reading
1 Kings. If we learn one lesson from Ahab, it's that our sin always finds us out. In his case, there was no amount of deception or protection that could keep him from God's judgment. All it took was a "stray" arrow.
In Acts, Paul's sermon was straight and to the point. He used their on Scriptures and knowledge of history to identify Jesus and explain that he was supposed to rise from the dead. Then he warned them sternly. He seems almost gentle at first, but I suspect that they were used to this type of stern conclusion.
Psalms. Verse 2 says that God backs up all His promises with His good name. I can understand that. Sometimes situations change and temptation comes to neglect something I promised. But a good name is worth more than riches and that spurs me into action. How about you? How much more does God keep His own honor by doing what He says.
Proverbs. Helping someone doesn't extend to promising to repay if they don't follow through with their commitments (cosigning). The only time we can afford to do that is if we have all the money to pay their debt and don't mind doing it.
